Social media platforms are powerful tools to show case your talents and on-line reputation. If you are a recent grad or a seasoned worker looking for a career opportunity or volunteering – then setting up your social media profiles is the place you need to be to fully utilize these tools to your advantage. Your resume can give details to your expertise and job history – but your presence and social interaction on the network showcase your personality.
Recruiters and Hiring Managers are making it a best practice to Google their potential hires… on the reverse side you can also Google your next Manager and co-workers to see if their values align with yours. You have an advantage to pass up opportunities when you see how they interact on Facebook & Twitter. I recently witnessed a potential opportunity and when I Googled the person I would be working with, I noticed they tweeted about their clients in a disrespectful manner – I second guessed if I wanted to work with a person like that. We want to display our talents to enable folks to learn and educate more – not bash our clients on-line. Lead by example, Promote what you love – not what you hate.
I don’t know everything – I’m a student still learning > but I’m grateful to have so many folks in my network that do. Connecting with others and sharing valuable information is the best tool of all. #Mentoring #Teaching #Coaching #Education #Network #PublicService
